ANSWERS TO THE HUNTING FOR ANIMAL'S HOMES TREASURE HUNT:

1.  Elephants eat roots, grasses, leaves, fruit, and bark.

2.  Kangaroos need little water; they can go for months without drinking, and they dig their own water wells.

3.  Bison can weigh up to a ton (900 kg).  If bison lived in a soft, squishy, marshy area, they would get stuck, or have difficulty walking because of their great size and weight.

4.The Siberian Husky has a long, thick coat that lets it live in extremely cold weather, down to -75°F. The insulating coat is made of two layers, a short, dense, oily underlayer and a long, coarse guard coat.

5.  The deer spend most of the day eating leaves, grass, bark, acorns, and other plant material.  Leaves, bark, and acorns all come from trees.

6.  Brown bears sleep in dens (caves, hollow logs, or holes they dig) during the winter.

7.  Puffins have thick, waterproof feathers that protect them from the cold.

8.  The color of the Snow Goose is almost completely white.  In the Arctic environment, this helps it to blend into the background of snow, protecting it from predators.

9.  The Greenland shark's eyes glow in the dark.

10.  The Mallard duck's food grows on the shore of a pond, close to the water.

11.  Using gills, a crayfish breathes oxygen that is dissolved in water.

12.  The muskrat has an entrance to their house under the water.  This limits predators entrance to the house.
