Lesson Plan:  Earth’s Catastrophic Past

Unifying concepts and processes help students think about and integrate a range of basic ideas which builds an understanding of the natural world.

12.1.1   By the end of twelfth grade, students will develop an understanding of systems, order, and organization.

          *Create a physical, mental, or mathematical model to show how

            objects and processes are connected

           *Evaluate the reasonableness of answers to problems.

Objective: 

To create a Power Point that explains one of Earth’s geologic processes that shaped and changed the Earth’s surface or is a major event in Earth’s past that has impacted our planet. 

Assessments:

  *Rubric scored Power Point Presentation

   Written draft of Power Point (English 9 teacher will assess)

    Computer Lab Work

Provision for special needs:

Enlarged printed copy for visually impaired student

Access to the Help Lab during study hall

May present to instructor only if needed

Procedures:

Students will be assigned on the events or processes to research and then create a presentation for the class that will help us understand our dynamic planet and how it has changed over the centuries.

 Activities:           *View Bill Nye video

                             *View Sample power points

                             *Receive instruction on creating power point

                             *Complete Content info for power point

                             *Complete Presentation for power point

                             *Complete Delivery presentation

                             *Peer Evaluations

Closure:  Students will complete individual written and power point

                 presentations as well as evaluations by teacher and peers.
