This unit is a compilation of several things I was doing for different classes. At the time I wrote this unit, the United States was at war with an unseen enemy, terrorism. However, war today is less hand-to-hand combat and more strategically maneuvering with the latest technological advances. I believe as a teacher that few students grasp today what true war actually meant just a few decades ago.

The Vietnam War has always fascinated me. I believe it is important that our juniors and seniors understand the importance of the draft, and that it wasn't too long ago that it was used and kids their age went to fight battles they can only imagine. Perhaps after this unit, the youth of today will gain more appreciation of the freedoms that they do have, and what it took for them to have them.
