Fun in the Jungle

Integrated disciplines: Technology, Reading and Writing

NE Standards:

2.1.1 Students will be able to operate: VCRs, audio tapes, CD-ROMS, Mouse, Keyboard, Monitors, Other Devices.

Objectives:

Students will be able to: Name 3 to 4 different plants found in the rainforest.
Explain the different characteristics of a plant found in the rainforest.
Access information off of the Internet.

Assessment:

As students are on the computer teacher will walk around and make sure students have accessed the correct web page and make sure that they are taking down information. Teacher will help children who need it.

Materials:

Plant
Paper
Pencil
Computer

Procedures

Anticipatory Set:

Have children gather in a circle and bring out a plant. Discuss characterizes of the plant and then talk about some different plants that the students are familiar with. Then explain that we will be doing an internet activity about rainforest plants.

Learning Activities

Teacher:

Teacher will explain that the students will be going out to a specific website and finding information on a rainforest plant. The teacher will tell the students that they need to write a description of the plant that they chose, and why they chose that plant.

Students:

Students will get on the computer and go to the website provided. They will pick a rainforest plant and write the chart eristic of it. They will then share with the class and tell why they chose to write about that plant.

Provision for special needs:

Help children with Fine motors skill problems type on the keyboard.
Allow more or less time for children to research their plant.

Closure:

Have children get in a circle and talk about the plants that were shared by the class. Take a vote to see who liked what plants the best and then make a chart on the board.

Reflection:

This activity went really well, and children really enjoyed talking about the different plants. It was good for them to use the computer to access information.
