Activity InformationName of activity and description: Easter Egg Math. This lesson involves counting Easter eggs and then hiding them. As the children find the eggs, periodically ask them how many they have and how many more they need to find. Curriculum Areas: Math Children (Number, ages, etc.): Pre-k to 1st. Have two children look for the eggs at a time. Assessment/Rationale: -The students must use counting to decide how many eggs they have. -The students will use addition and subtraction to figure out how many more eggs they need to find. Objectives: -During this activity the learner will be able to count the correct number of eggs. -During this activity the learner will be able to accurately count how many eggs they have found. -During this activity the learner will be able to add or subtract correctly and find the number of eggs they still need to find. Space and Materials Needed: Plastic Easter Eggs Easter Basket Procedure Introduction: -Have the students count the number of eggs in the Easter basket. -Have two students hide the eggs. Teaching Sequence: -Tell two students to go look for the hidden eggs. -Periodically, ask the students how many eggs they have found so far. -Ask the students how many eggs they still need to find. -When the students have found all the eggs, have them count them to make sure they have them all. Closure: -Ask the students how they figured out how many more eggs they needed to find. -Discuss with the class how they used addition and subtraction to find all the eggs. -Discuss other times in their lives when they use addition and subtraction.
