Grade: 1st

NE Standards: 

-         1.1.6   By the end of first grade, students will print neatly and correctly.

-         1.3.1.  By the end of first grade, students will identify information gained and complete tasks through listening.

Integrated discipline:

-         Social skills

Objectives:

-         The students will be able to recognize mistakes in handwriting accurately.

-         The students will be able to make letters using correct handwriting.

Assessment:

-         The students will recognize mistakes made in handwriting.

-         The students will make letters correctly using handwriting.

Materials:

-  Chalkboard/Whiteboard

Procedures:

Anticipating Set:

-  Tell the students they are going to be trying to find mistakes in your handwriting.

    Vocabulary:

-         Handwriting

-         Mistakes

-         Corrections

    Activities:

-         Write a letter on the board showing the students how you are making the letter and what it looks like

-         Have the students judge your letter and decide if it is made correctly or not.

-         If the students think there is a mistake, tell them to explain it to you

-         Have that student go to the board and write the letter correctly.

-         Let all students get a chance to go to the board and write a letter correctly.

-         Make sure to write some letters correctly so they really have to think about whether there is a mistake or not.

    Provision for Special Needs:

-         Have the student write all the letters on paper as you do it.

-         Help the student write the letter correctly on the board.

Closure:

-         Have the students write all the letters using correct handwriting.

-         Ask the students if they thought it was fun to correct the teacher’s handwriting.
