Grade: 2-4 NE Standards: - 4.4.1 By the end of fourth grade, students will identify information gained and complete tasks through listening. Integrated discipline: - listening - social skills Objectives: - The students will be able to spell words correctly. - The students will be able to listen to the other students so they say the accurate letter or word. Assessment: - The students will say the correct letter or word when it is their turn. - The students will listen carefully to the other students so they know when it is their turn and what to say. Materials: - room for the entire class to stand in a large circle Procedures: Anticipating Set: - Tell the students they are going to work on their spelling words using a game. Vocabulary: - spelling words Activities: - Tell the students to gather in a large circle in a designated part in the room - Explain that you will be giving them a word to spell. - The first student must say the word, the next will say the first letter, the next says the second letter and so on until the word is spelled, the next student then says the word again and the final student says sparkle - The student following the sparkle student must then be seated - If you say the wrong letter or word part then you too are to sit. - The final students standing after several words are the winners. - Repeat this game for all of the spelling words. Provision for Special Needs: - Help the student when it comes to their part - Write the letters said on the board to help the student see it visually. Closure: - Ask the students what they thought of the game and if there is anything they think should be done differently. - Ask them if the game helped with their spelling words and if they would like to play again sometime with new words.
