Introduction

We are going talk about the world of author Eric Carle.  He has written many children's books.  You may have heard of them and not realized he was the author.   You are going to explore all of the interesting books that are written by Eric Carle.

After we read the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do You See?" we will break into groups and read other books by Eric Carle.  We will retell them to one another and write why we like or dislike the books.



The Task

The task will be:

  • Understand what an author is;
  • Become familiar with Eric Carle;
  • Read other books by Eric Carle;
  • Write whether you like or dislike the book and why;
  • Draw a picture of your favorite book;

We will be using books by Eric Carle and videos that include information about the author.

 



The Process

  1. First we will talk about what an author is....
  2. We will talk about the author Eric Carle in particular.....
  3. We will watch a video about Eric Carle and how he makes his books.....
  4. We will read the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?' in class....
  5. We will talk about the book and why we like it or not.....
  6. We will break into groups of 2.....
  7. You will take turns getting on the computer and going to a site to pick your next book to read....
  8. Go to the Website:  Eric Carle's Book
  9. You will go to the shelf to get the book and read it to one another....
  10. You will then journal and draw why we like the book
  11. You will then present the books in groups to the class.

Upon completion of this project you should know what an author is.  You will be able to give examples of Eric Carle books that you like.  You will also be familiar with how Eric Carle makes his books
