Anticipatory Set: Familiar Images Power Point slide in conjunction with Cathedral images

  1. Discuss impact Constantine had on the first Christian Churches
    1. 4th Century; there were no churches
    2. Where Christians worshipped
    3. Result of Constantine legalizing Christianity
  2. Relationship between Roman Basilicas and early Churches
    1. Chart showing similarities and differences
    2. Early churches=product of their time

3. Reasoning behind extravagant Cathedrals

a. compare to modern churches and reasoning for such buildings

Closure:

  1. Re-iterate that churches reflect the culture/communities they serve
  2. Introduce Church Architecture drawing
    1. Students will design their ideal church building showing both and inside an outside view
    2. Students will include a one page essay explaining their design
