Elements of the
FrontPage:
Nameplate: The name of the newspaper Ears: Information on the right and left side of the “nameplate” For example: 1. Weather for the day 2.
Date (am or pm publication?) Teasers: Mini headlines that tease the reader into stories inside the paper. Teasers draw the reader in! Skyline: Information above the nameplate is
called a skyline and these are often the “teasers” Insiders: Horizontal area across the bottom of the page that tease the reader into even more stories. Can include graphics/photos Index: What page number the story is on. Job Positions: Editor in Chief: Mediator/Negotiator in the group. Lead group in brainstorming different story ideas and the name of the newspaper. Must assist all group members in their different jobs. Layout Editor: Responsible for how each page in the newspaper looks. Decides where the stories and pictures will be placed on a page. Staff Writers: (Two person position) Responsible for writing headlines, captions, and stories. Art Editor: Responsible for collecting and creating any photos/graphics/drawings 1. Every page should have a dominant photo image (it should be larger than any other pictures on the page) 2. Every photo should have a Caption, which explains to the reader what is happening in the picture. Captions are written in the present tense. 3. Every photo needs a photo credit: in smaller print give credit to the photographer or artist. 4. Include a Dateline which is at the beginning of every story. This tells the reader who the author is and where the story is from (city or different newspaper): 5. Headlines need to be strong! Catchy! Grab the readers attention. 1. Front Page 2. An editorial is an article that
expresses the opinion of the editor about a big issue ·
This page MUST include an
editorial cartoon that depicts the big issue chosen. ·

items that were around back then) 4.
Obituaries/Deaths: Include at least three
historical figures that died within the time period of 1790-1855. Also,
create your own recently deceased, include: ·

(Research diseases or viruses that people often died from back then) ·
List any existing
family ·

Puzzle Page: Crossword Puzzle, games, horoscopes
(optional), or comics. 6.
Ad-Page: Include some of the products of the day

· All group members must participate in choosing topics, stories, inventions, etc. · Each group member must write an editorial Time Period: (1790-1855) In the Newspaper
the group must include information from Section 3.3 on the Industrial Revolution
(pages 96-102). For

the group will have to do further research (on internet) over this time period
and pick from a variety of fun inventions, people, and events. ü
Newspaper must be
written in the time period the group chooses, write to the audience and people
of that day!!! You are no longer living in 2007, but in the age of the
