When I think about a really good teacher I imagine a person that is full of life and energy. A truly successful teacher is an individual that has a true zest and creativity to keep students thinking. Anyone can stand up in front of his or her students and lecture, or just hand out busy work, but it takes someone special to keep things interesting. I believe that a huge part of being professional with children, families and other professionals will be in the way I respond to them.

To deal with these different situations I must be prepared and practice what I preach. I am far from perfect, but I want to model what I stand for. I want to be able to set realistic goals regarding my students work and what I expect from them. A teacher can’t ask things from their students that they themselves wouldn’t do.

There is nothing worse than a teacher who feels they know it all or a teacher that doesn’t have a passion for the subject they teach. I will not be that teacher! I am willing to grow and to keep learning new things. I will also be willing to reflect on who I am as a teacher, which is essential.

I want to be a role model for my students. I plan to be there for my students, help parents feel connected to the school, and have a good relationship with other professionals. My wish is that by modeling honesty and respect, others will follow my lead.
