“Wits Clash”

Grade: 8

Subject: Social Studies; American History

Objectives: Test Review Session

1. Students will identify correct answers & terms

2. Students will evaluate distinctions between terms

3. Students will distinguish between different powers of the federal system

Materials:

1. Seven Buzzers

2. Review Questions

Procedures:

1. Each “pod” is a team (total of 7 teams)

2. The teams will be asked a combination of “toss” and “bonus” questions.

3. The first team to tap their buzzer will be given a toss question: if the team answers correctly they will earn 1 point and earn the opportunity to answer the bonus question which is worth 1 point.

4. If the team answers the toss question incorrectly than the opposing team gets the opportunity to answer.

5. If neither team answers the toss question correctly then 2 new teams will compete.

6. Time limit of toss questions is 30 seconds and 60 seconds for bonus questions.

7. Once a team rings their bell they can no longer discuss the answer, they must answer immediately

Learning Activities:

Teacher:

1. The teacher will facilitate the review session activity

2. The teacher will also serve as the judge in determining which team taps their buzzer first.

Student:

1. Students will participate in group discussion to determine the correct answers.

2. Students will recognize and identify the correct answer or terms.
